Social enterprise nursery chain The London Early Years Foundation has won the Orange National Business Award for Transformational Change of the Year.
The annual National Business Awards, in partnership with Orange, are open to organisations from the private, public and third sectors and designed to recognise excellence, innovation and ethics.

Winners of the 2012 awards were announced last night (Wednesday) at a ceremony held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London, which was opened with a video address from the Prime Minister David Cameron.

London Early Years Foundation (LEYF) was chosen as the winner of the Transformational Change of the Year award in recognition of its work to turn a vulnerable charity into a financially secure social enterprise.

A registered charity since 1903, LEYF employs more than 350 staff and manages 23 children’s centres and nurseries in six London boroughs.

June O’Sullivan, LEYF chief executive, said, ‘It has never been more important for children in London to have access to high quality childcare. We ensure children are cared for in the best possible settings with the best staff, but we also support their families through training and intervention to provide help and guidance at what can be a difficult time in their lives.

‘Ensuring we had a sustainable model to allow us to support London’s children for decades to come was our top priority. It is with thanks to my staff and management team that we have been able to create a structure and culture that will enable us to secure this positive future for London’s children. I am delighted the judges recognised the efforts we put in.’

Ella’s Kitchen, producers of organic baby and toddler food, also won an award for International Growth Business of the Year.
