CHINESE NEW YEAR

Nurseries across the country marked Chinese New Year on 23 January, the start of the year of the dragon.

Blossom Tree Children's Nursery in Edinburgh (above) made a dragon display and also got in touch with the nursery class at Dulwich College international school in Beijing to learn how they celebrate New Year in China.

Traditional Chinese dishes were savoured by children at Little Acorns Day Nursery in Washington, Tyne and Wear, kidsunlimited in North Cheam, Surrey (top) kidsunlimited in East Barnet (bottom) and the London Early Years Foundation Nursery at Furze Children's Centre in Barking and Dagenham.

FOAMING AROUND

The pre-school class at kidsunlimited Ladbroke Grove in London messed around with crazy foam for an activity to encourage speech. Nursery manager Beverley Smith said, 'The children loved describing the texture of the foam and making up silly sounding words.'

HEART OF THE NURSERY

Just Learning Nursery in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, presented their local children's community nursing team with a cheque for more than £1,000 to buy two portable blood pressure monitors. The nursery was inspired to raise the money by three-year-old Joseph Mackay, who attends the setting and suffers from a serious heart defect.

WISHES COME TRUE

Nursery group Casterbridge raised more than £20,000 for the Make-a-Wish Foundation, which grants wishes for children living with life-threatening illnesses. Throughout the year, employees, children and parents from Casterbridge got involved in a host of fundraising activities and events to grant wishes to five children and young people in the UK.

MOBILE THEATRE

Children at Lincolnshire Montessori in Caistor, Lincolnshire, were treated to a special adapted interactive performance of 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' with the Rhubarb Theatre Company.
