National Deaf Children's Society

The National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS) is one of ten charities to receive funding from the Department for Work and Pensions to develop a family sign language curriculum that will help parents sign with their deaf children. The current British Sign Language curriculum is based around adult life, and lacks signs and phrases needed to tell nursery rhymes or fairy stories, or play make-believe games. The new curriculum will aim to help children and their families communicate effectively. David Tee, NDCS director of projects and development, said it was delighted the DfWP had decided to fund 'this vital and exciting project'.
