Nanny registration survey

Nannies and families who employ them have been invited to give their opinions on nanny registration. The Professional Association of Nursery Nurses (PANN) has launched a survey on whether or not nannies should be registered. It follows Government plans to create a new category of 'home childcarer' from next April, which would only apply to nannies if they were to register as childminders. Tricia Pritchard, PANN professional officer, said, 'At the moment anyone can call themselves a nanny. They do not need a first-aid certificate, let alone a professional qualification. There is nothing to stop someone with a criminal record working as a nanny. We are campaigning to persuade the Government to legislate to introduce statutory registration for all people working directly with children and young people.' The survey is on the website www.pat.org.uk.
