Music as Therapy International, a charity based in South London, is offering seven places on its interactive music making course.

The course, which has been running since 2010, teaches practitioners how to use music to boost the communication, expression and social development of the under-fives in their care. By the end of the course, participants should have the confidence and ability to run their own regular music sessions independently.

It will run from this September until May next year from Charlton in South-East London.

Practitioners who secure a fully funded place on the course will also be provided with a set of instruments and a contribution towards staff cover and travel costs.

Applications for places must come via settings and not individuals.

Alexia Quin, director of Music as Therapy International, and co-founder of Interactive Music-Making, said, ‘The inclusive nature of interactive music-making allows children to develop their social understanding, self-expression, and confidence in a fun and nurturing environment. Early years practitioners often tell us they see the impact of interactive music-making extend far beyond their music sessions, benefitting their young children’s wider wellbeing and their potential to thrive.

‘Our free training offer enables early years settings and the children in their care to access the countless benefits music has to offer, regardless of age, ability, privilege, or background.’
