Enabling Environments: Tried and Tested - Full colour

Early years settings test colour-related resources for looking, sorting, mixing and experimenting, and tell Nicole Weinstein what they found.

Colour is important in children's play because it stimulates the child's imagination across all areas of learning within the EYFS. It is a topic that's accessible to all ages of children and is easily related to daily life and activities. Recognising colours aids creative and social development. It's also important in relation to children's safety - for example, recognising warning signs in red, or the black and yellow of stinging insects.
