The role of the SENCO in an era of change

Outline:

An opportunity to explore and understand the way forward working with children with Special Educational Needs and Disabled Children in the Early Years.

Target Audience -  Early Years SENCO’s and setting leaders and lead SEND practitioners

  • Focus on the key changes in the light of the Children and Families Bill (2014) and specifically the Code of Practice for Special Educational Needs alongside the Statutory duties of the EYFS (2014) and The Equality Act (2010).
  • Consider the role of all practitioners in partnership with the SENCO in delivering inclusive practice. Including the responsibilities of the Keyperson in early identification.
  • Provide the opportunity to discuss and reflect how to share and implement  changes practice. For example SEN Support, assess,plan ,do, review, using one page profiles.
  • Consider opportunities and challenges presented by the changes and begin to develop solutions and identify actions, which will support the way forward.
