Comprehensive guide to becoming sustainable now available

Want to know how to be more sustainable? Or where to source grant funding for solar panels, or how to make your building more eco-friendly?

Our sustainability series, commissioned in response to readers’ requests on the subject, answers all these questions. We've trawled the length of the country to find the most innovative sustainable practices out there, including settings selling their own eggs and honey, introducing cloth nappies for all, and involving children with local supply chain decisionmaking.

In one Welsh setting, an electronic monitor shows children how much energy is being produced each day through solar panels, depending on the strength of the sun. Another case study explores the concept of the ‘passive house’ where energy loss is minimised through clever building design and water is recycled through the plumbing system.

The series features key research underpinning current thinking on the subject, as well as how to introduce sustainability through leadership, and get parents and the entire community involved.

The authors include Liverpool John Moores university academics who are currently working on the first sustainability framework for early years settings.
