The new Ambassadors will support the Montessori Group’s focus of honouring Maria Montessori’s humanitarian legacy, helping them to build partnerships and to have a positive social impact internationally.

The appointment of the Duchess of York as chair follows her philanthropic work with families and commitment to supporting a wide range of children’s charities. Her daughter, Princess Eugenie, attended a Montessori nursery as a child.

The Duchess of York said that she was ‘thrilled’ to be invited to chair the group. ‘The Montessori approach encourages a love of learning and curiosity that is life-long, and this is something I’m very passionate about,’ she said. ‘It’s just as needed in today’s world as it was 100 years ago when Dr Maria Montessori developed her pedagogy.

‘I’m looking forward to supporting the Montessori Group to reach more children, and ensure they get the best start in life.’

CEO of the Montessori Group, Leonor Stjepic welcomed the Duchess’ support in building partnerships with organisations that can make a difference to children, their families and practitioners worldwide.

‘Collaboration is an important part of the Montessori approach, and as an organisation we put collaborative relationships at the heart of all we do,’ she added. ‘We are excited about the opportunities ahead and the conversations it will spark.’

Geeta Sidhu-Robb, of the board of Montessori St Nicholas, an arm of the Montessori Group, commented, ‘Over the last few years, we’ve had the honour of partnering with some incredible organisations which has helped us create positive social change.

‘The new International Montessori Ambassadors will play a crucial role in extending this purpose and allow us to reach more people internationally. We’re overjoyed to have the Duchess heading up this new group and supporting our mission.’
