The draft Code of Practice

The draft Code of Practice for Special Educational Needs is being revised by the Government to ensure that children receive the help they need, schools minister Catherine Ashton said last week. The current Code of Practice was issued in 1994 and the revised draft is to be placed before Parliament intending that it will come into force on 1 January 2002, the minister said. She added, 'To ensure that schools and LEAs have additional time to prepare, we will also bring in the special educational needs provisions of the SEN and Disability Act 2001 on that date.'
