Roald Dahl Funny Prize shortlist announced

The books shortlisted for the Roald Dahl Funny Prize, an annual award to recognise the funniest children's fiction, have been chosen.

Now in its fifth year, the Booktrust prize was created by Michael Rosen as part of his work as children’s laureate.

The prize, which has two categories - aged six and under, and seven-to 14-year-olds, aims to reward authors and artists who use humour to communicate with children.

Shortlisted for the 2012 Roald Dahl Funny Prize for the funniest books for children aged six and under are:

  • The Baby that Roared by Simon Puttock, illustrated by Nadia Shireen
  • My Big Shouting Day by Rebecca Patterson
  • Oh No, George! by Chris Haughton
  • The Pirates Next Door by Jonny Duddle
  • Stuck by Oliver Jeffers
  • The Worst Princess by Anna Kemp, illustrated by Sara Oglivie

The books shortlisted for the prize were chosen by a panel of judges comprising author Michael Rosen, broadcaster and comedian Mel Giedroyc, author and journalist Lucy Mangan, author, illustrator and winner of the 2011 seven-fourteen category Liz Pichon, and illustrator and author Ed Vere.

The winners of the two categories will be announced at a ceremony at the Unicorn Theatre in London on 6 November where they will be presented with a cheque for £2,500.
