The London-based chain, which was established in 2015, operates six full-time forest nurseries for children aged from two-years-old and a full-time forest primary school caring for children from four- to -11-years-old.

The Forest School training is being offered in partnership with Cambium Sustainable which is endorsed by the Forest School Association and Institute for Outdoor Learning.

Operational manager Conor Williams, who is leading the training, said that the level of demand for training from within their own staff and from nursery and primary schools outside of the group led to the decision to share their knowledge more widely through accredited training.

‘At Little Forest Folk, we feel like we’re a very tightknit community, and we want to expand our community,’ he said.

‘We want to create a network where trainees can build relationships with one another, help each other through challenging situations and celebrate in each other’s successes; things that are rooted at the core of Forest School and what we want all the children we work with to be able to do.’

The Level 3 course involves eight days of initial training where practitioners learn about the ethos, values and process involved in Forest School - how to support learning, play and development using the natural world, how to deliver Forest School sessions, how to assess and evaluate these sessions, how to sustainably use and manage the natural resources around them and how to use a range of practical outdoor skills from lighting campfires and putting up shelters, to using tools and identifying trees. Trainees then return to their settings to work towards completing a portfolio.
