A Manchester nursery chain has been rated outstanding by Ofsted in all four of its settings.

The Mulberry Bush Nursery group has settings in Tottington, Walmerlsey, Walshaw and Whitfield in Bury, Greater Manchester.

All the inspections took place in 2011.

The Walmerlsey nursery, which was opened last July, had only been operating for five months when it received top marks from Ofsted.

Inspectors commented on the ‘highly stimulating and child-centered environments’ provided by the nurseries, which they said ‘provide a safe environment with optimal challenges to enhance physical development.’ They also praised staff for ‘delivering outstanding learning and care for all children.’

Director Jo Kinloch said, ‘We are so proud of our fantastic team and the amazing love and care they provide for the children every day. It is an enormous achievement to have been graded as outstanding in each of our settings. Ofsted have said that we should be very proud because they give these grades infrequently, so it's amazing to have been awarded them in all of our settings.’

The Mulberry Bush Nursery Group’s owners Sue and John Robinson opened the first nursery in the chain in Tottington in 1990 followed by the setting in Whitfield in 2004 and Walshaw in 2006.

Five years later they opened the new nursery in Walmersley, based in the former New Inn Public House (pictured), with a 200 year history, which they restored and converted.

Prior to opening the nurseries, Ms Robinson worked as a district nurse and health visitor, and Mr Robinson was a headmaster at a secondary school in Salford, Manchester.

The owners’ two sons and daughter, who are fully qualified practitioners, have now taken over the running of the group.

Despite achieving top marks from Ofsted, the group intends to improve the settings by renovating and renewing facilities to ensure they continue to provide high quality childcare.
