EYFS Profile Handbook and exemplification materials now online

The EYFS Profile Handbook and the EYFS Profile exemplification materials have been published by the Department for Education.

Both documents are available to download from the Foundation Years website. Printed copies will not be available.

The EYFS Profile handbook replaces the previous 2008 issue and has been developed to help practitioners to make accurate judgements about each child’s attainment, and to enable effective moderation of judgements.

The EYFS Profile LA moderation requirements booklet has been incorporated into section 6 of the 2013 handbook.

Exemplification materials

These provide a selection of example evidence for each of the 17 early learning goals (ELGs), which are part of the new EYFS Profile.

The materials set out the national standard for the level of learning and development expected at the end of the EYFS for each ELG.

The exemplification materials will help:

  • practitioners to make accurate judgements for each child’s attainment;
  • moderators to assess the accuracy of practitioner judgements;
  • Year 1 teachers to use EYFS Profile outcomes to plan effective provision; and
  • other stakeholders to evaluate children’s learning and development.

The 2013 EYFS assessment and reporting arrangements (ARA) will be published shortly and will set out the assessment and reporting requirements for the EYFS Profile.

The ARA will include guidance on completing the EYFS Profile, moderating the Profile and reporting and using the results.

Printed copies will be available to local authorities and schools and copies will also be available online to download.
