Three directors at the Busy Bees nursery chain have Ben Nevis in their sights as part of a massive charity fundraising event involving all 50 Busy Bees nurseries.

Operations director Margaret Randles, managing director Lynn Woodward and finance director Simon Irons are currently in training for their hike up the UK's highest mountain on 14 May.

Carole Chadderton, operations manager at Busy Bees, said, 'The directors hope to complete the climb in about five hours. It was Margaret Randles who came up with the idea because she wanted to help the settings put something back into their local community.

'Each nursery is now encouraging parents to sponsor the climb and all the money raised will be donated to local charities which have been chosen by the nurseries themselves.'

The charities include Derian House Children's Hospice, supported by Aston House and Bamber Bridge Nurseries in Preston; Donna's Dream House, supported by Busy Bees Blackpool; Radio Lancashire Help a Local Child; and the Edwards Trust, supported by Burntwood Nursery in Staffordshire.

Nursery staff are now using the Ben Nevis walk as a theme for a range of activities. Ms Chadderton said, 'Between now and May, all the nursery children will be doing work tied in to the climb. They are learning about Scotland and piped in the haggis to celebrate Burns Night on 25 January.

Many nurseries are doing projects on healthy eating and exercise.'
