The role will see St Edmund’s Nursery School and Children’s Centre work with four childcare and education providers to support them to improve outcomes for children across the EYFS, focusing on areas of development that research indicates has been most impacted by Covid-19 - personal social and emotional development (PSED); communication and language, and early literacy and maths.

Launched this month, the Stronger Practice Hubs programme forms part of the Department for Education’s (DfE) Covid-19 recovery package. It is being led by the NCB, with support from Education Endowment Foundation (EEF).

Each Stronger Practice Hub will support settings to adopt well-evidenced practice improvements by:

  • Establishing local networks of settings to share knowledge and effective practice.
  • Proactively sharing information and advice on evidence-based approaches, for example, through newsletters, blogs, events and social media.
  • Acting as a point of contact for bespoke advice, and signposting to other funded support.
  • Working with the Education Endowment Foundation to select evidence-based programmes to fund and make available to settings.

Hubs will be evenly distributed across England, with the ambition of establishing two Hubs in each region, with 18 in total. The programme will be funded for two years until late 2024.

St Edmunds Nursery School and Children's Centre will work with Children’s Place Day Nurseries, Co-op Academy Delius, Dixons Allerton Academy and childminder Belinda O’Hare.

Sian Hudson, headteacher at St Edmund's Nursery School and Children's Centre, said, ‘Achieving this status acknowledges the strong, evidence informed, practice delivered by the St Edmund's Nursery School team. We are looking forward to sharing our experiences and practice, as well as having the opportunity to learn from others. Whichever part of the early years workforce you come from, we all want the best outcomes for the children in our care, and bringing us together is a great way to achieve this.’
