C&G grants school NVQ4 training status

An Aberdeen childcare training company has become the first organisation in Scotland to be approved by City and Guilds to offer National Vocational Qualifications in Early Years Care and Education to Level 4. Kathlyn Taylor, administrator of the Children's House - the training and consultancy department of the Hamilton School, an independent school which takes children from three months to primary year 7 - is enthusiastic about the new qualification.

Ms Taylor said, 'We decided to offer this because we are a profession. There have been great changes in the nursery nurse profession and this is a professional qualification. I feel it is a seal of approval for us.'

Four students are currently at the stage of induction for the NVQ4 and there has been enormous interest. Ms Taylor sees the new qualification as vital in setting a career structure. 'I think career paths will open up,'
