Call for early years settings to join in Sport Relief

Early years settings are invited to take part in Sport Relief 2012 on 23 March to raise money for vulnerable people all over the world.

The biennial charity fundraising event, in association with the BBC, encourages people to get active to raise money and change lives.

Over 9,500 schools and early years settings took part in the last Sport Relief, raising £4.3m.

Abacus Educare Nursery in Glasgow (pictured) was one of the settings that took part in Sport Relief 2010. The nursery organised a sponsored pram push for babies and an obstacle course for the pre-school children, raising a total of £165 for the charity.

Nurseries, pre-schools and childminders who register for Sport Relief 2012, supported by characters from children’s television programme Waybuloo, can order a free activity kit for their setting to help them organise their fundraising event.

The kit includes a fundraising guide, promotional posters, balloons, stickers and stories of the children who will benefit from the money raised for use in circle time.

Early years practitioners can also download information and free activities from the Sport Relief website.
