Bright Horizons named in best places to work list

Bright Horizons Family Solutions, the second largest nursery group in the UK, has been named as one of Scotland's best workplaces by the Great Place to Work Institute.

The nursery group has been placed in fourth position out of ten companies in the medium/large workplaces category.

It is the only childcare organisation to receive the award, which rates workplaces on how much employees trust the people they work for, have pride in what they do and enjoy the people they work with.

Bright Horizons runs 129 nurseries in total, with 14 in Scotland, employing around 2,698 staff and 1,300 bank staff.

The nursery chain has also won an award for Excellence in Diversity, endorsed by One Workplace Equal Rights, and another for Excellence in Leadership, endorsed by the Chartered Institute of Management.

The Excellence in Diversity award recognises organisations which demonstrate a genuine sense of meritocracy, while the Excellence in Leadership award celebrates organisations that champion caring and creative management teams focused on improving the quality of the workplace for employees.

Regional manager Fiona McQueen and Sally Tilley received the awards at the awards ceremony at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow, and the children from Northgate nursery in Glasgow also celebrated the win.

Martina Murphy, Bright Horizons' director of operations Scotland, said, ‘Being named a Best Workplace by the Great Place to Work Institute, and receiving the Leadership and Diversity Awards means a great deal to Bright Horizons. We are so proud of the talented people who work for us, and to know that they in turn have so much pride in the work they do, trust in our leadership and feel they can bring their whole selves to work is very important to us.’
