Awards for All Ages were set up by social enterprise United for All Ages, itself just a year old, which works with local authorities, businesses, charities and universities to bring young and old together through shared sites, caring and interests.
Founders and directors Stephen Burke and Denise Burke see intergenerational projects, not only as a means of sharing resources in tough economic times, but as a way of ending the ‘age apartheid’ in Britain, building more united communities, that are not ‘isolated, lonely and "generations apart".’
The inaugural awards were presented at an event at the House of Lords, and hosted by Radio 4 broadcaster Fi Glover, presenter of Generations Apart, which is following the lives of a group of 21-year-olds and 65-year-olds over three years.
