Play a Christmas tree game as a seasonal celebration.

Child development opportunities

To listen carefully and respond to the instructions To increase colour awareness and vocabulary To think about Christmas celebrations

How to play

* Explain that you are going to decorate a big Christmas tree and the children are going to be baubles.

* Ask them to choose a colour.

* Draw circles on the ground for each colour and ask the children to select one and stand in it.

* Draw an imaginary tree on the ground and explain that you will call out colours as you need them.

* When they hear their colour, they dance around the imaginary tree.

* When there are several colours dancing around, the wind comes. Choose someone to be the wind.

* As the wind blows WOOO! it tries to touch the decorations before they get back to safety in their circles.

* Any decoration touched by the wind is out, down to the last child, who becomes the star on top of the tree!

Tips

* Take the role of the wind yourself the first time you play.

* Follow up the game by painting your own baubles on a big tree.
