Publishing group Haymarket first purchased the magazine in October 1967 when it had been stripped of its popular title and re-named 'All About Children'. We promptly returned to the time-honoured name of Nursery World.
As the editor of the 13 October 1967 issue stated, 'By this name our magazine was known and esteemed for 40 years, and throughout that time it was read enthusiastically by nannies, mothers - and even grandmothers - alike. Now we are taking a big step forward and setting out to embrace everyone in the field of child care.'
For the sum of one shilling, readers in the late 1960s received a magazine packed full of child development advice, notes for nursery students, tips on equipment, insights into nurseries around the UK and abroad, a lively readers' forum, recipes and, of course, an obligatory knitting pattern.
